Correlation between Google Page Rank, Back Links and SERP

The genuine connection between Back Links (inbound links), Page Rank assigned by Google and Search Engine Results Pages (SERP) is the most sought after topic of discussion in the search engine community. Numerous SEO services providers and experts have their unique theory explaining this correlation but there is no concrete data present to prove the relation or dependency. To believe these theories blindly could prove to be fatal for SEO Companies since these theories are just personal opinions which may or may not be utterly correct. Although this article is not about finding the exact correlation but still we can find the way to use these factors optimally for SEO purpose.

According to the well known definition of Page Rank, the Page Rank of the webpage is a function of all inbound links pointing to it. Either these inbound links comes from inside or outside the domain. The results obtained from getting Back Links can fluctuate significantly in accordance with quantity, regularity and related Page Ranks of the back links. Numerous SEO firms are using Back Links expansively in order to generate positive Page Rank results. But surely, no one can tell exactly that how many back links are required to increase Page Rank from 1 to 2 and if the same amount of links are sufficient to raise Page rank from 6 to 7 since Page Rank depends on hundreds of other factors also and not merely the back links.

Certainly, Page Rank affects the way how Google places a website when a user searches for a specific keyword. Positively, the better your Page Rank is, the higher your website position will be and the ultimate purpose is to dominate the Search Engine Result Pages when a potential user searches for the related keywords. But this is not always true since we can see websites with low Page Ranks appearing high in search engine results.

A lot of SEO experts argue that decrease in the Page Rank of a website could be an indication of fall in the position in their Search Engine Result Pages. But I think if a website is facing some typical SEO issues concerning content or links then your rankings in Search Engine Result Pages will drop first and your Page Rank will drop sooner or later, maybe after a period of 1-2 months.  The reason is that your SERP ranking depends on the present status of your website whereas Page Rank depends on the saved database which gets updated hardly once in every two months.

No doubt, we can say that page rank, back links and SERP are closely related but the extent of their interdependency is not precisely known. For SEO services providers a technical understanding of back links, Google Page Rank, SERP and their interdependency is essential to improve their SEO strategy.

    Article Marketing: Traffic vs. Pagerank

One obvious question that may pop up from some marketers not familiar with article marketing is, “Should I do it for the traffic or for the PageRank?”

My answer to that question is the proverbial, “It depends.” The key is to not get too shortsighted and it’s easy to do that when you focus on PageRank.

For example, there are some successful article directories now that people submit their articles to primarily as a way to gain PageRank.

The idea is to submit to these directories because the directories themselves have high PageRank and the link in your article resource box will transfer the benefits of that PageRank to your website. That’s not really a good plan.

For one thing, if the article directory has a PageRank of 6 then one article is not going to transfer a PageRank 6 benefit to you. You will have to share that PR 6 with every article marketer submitting articles that article directory.

One rule of thumb is, the higher the PR of the article directory then the more people will be submitting articles to them, which means you are sharing a PR 6 with more people as opposed to a PR 4 with fewer.

You might actually be getting less benefit from that than submitting to a site with lower PR. The best way to make that strategy work is to submit a lot of articles so that you can aggregate the total benefits of article submission. Again, that is a shortsighted approach and it could backfire in a number of ways.

Some article directories are now including nofollow tags on all of their article pages. That means if you do submit your articles to those directories then you won’t get any PageRank benefit from the directory at all. But that doesn’t mean there is no benefit to be gained from those articles at all.

Why You Submit To Article Directories

The real reason you want to submit your articles to article directories is not so that you can benefit from the traffic or PageRank of the article directory.

The idea is to have your articles published in e-zines, on websites, and blogs owned by someone in your niche who is not associated with the article directory.

For example, let’s say you own a nutrition supplement store. You write health articles. If another website owner in your niche reads your articles and likes them then they are likely to publish your articles on their website and in their e-zine.

That results in a link back to your website from another website within your niche. That publication then will transfer the benefits that you want to your website and is the real reason you submit articles to directories.

OK, So Is Traffic Or PageRank The Real Benefit I’m Looking For?

The answer is both. You want more traffic to your website because traffic means more opportunities to sell your product.

You want higher PageRank because higher PageRank means more trust with the search engines and that means more trust with your target audience.

But how do you achieve high PageRank?

A higher PageRank is achieved by relevant sites linking back to yours. Sites within your niche are relevant. The links from those sites are high value links.

The higher the PageRank of the site linking to yours, the more benefit you’ll get from the links from that site.

It all boils down to reputation. Think about hundreds of those high value, relevant links pointing back to your website. That is the reason for article marketing.

It’s a long-term strategy and shortsightedness on the way that you approach it will only kill any benefits that you might have received.

Relevant or Irrelevant: Google Page Rank

Page Rank (PR), particularly Google PR, is the rank that is assigned to each web page on the internet. The ranking is a number based system starting from 0 the lowest to 10 the highest. The PR was a measurement on the “strength” of a page based on the number and quality of Backlinks to that page (for more information about Backlinks click here).

For a while PR was an obsession with SEO consultants, web masters and web page owners around the world. However, the idea of PR all changed on October 14, 2009 when Susan Moskwa, a Google Employee, confirmed Google PR is no longer relevant, stating “we’ve been telling people for a long time that they shouldn’t focus on PageRank so much; many site owners seem to think it’s the most important metric for them to track, which is simply not true.” Google has confirmed they no longer use PR and in fact have moved to TrustRank, a newer version of PR, but TrustRank is not available to the public. Want more information head over to Google Webmaster Central.

The following are a few reasons why Google PR is irrelevant today:

Google has confirmed they no longer use PR, ergo PR is irrelevant. Click here to read the FAQ’s forum regarding Google’s take on PR.
PR cannot be tracked. Any rank is probably 6 to 9 months old, therefore cannot be considered accurate.
PR is not evenly distributed across a website. In other words your home page may have a rank of 7 while your contact us page is ranked 1.
PR IS NOT related to SEO or organic search. Do a quick search for ‘How to make muffins’ and you will find many of the listed websites have a PR of 0, yet are ranked well on the major search engines.
PR and the social media. Social media conversations are dominating search results. And most of the pages listed have a PR of 0. This also goes with press releases.

Google sums it up quite nicely by stating: “Don’t worry. In fact, don’t bother thinking about it. We only update the PageRank displayed in Google Toolbar a few times a year; this is our respectful hint for you to worry less about PageRank, which is just one of over 200 signals that can affect how your site is crawled, indexed and ranked. PageRank is an easy metric to focus on, but just because it’s easy doesn’t mean it’s useful for you as a site owner.” To see the full quote go to the link listed above.

    Google Page Rank Drop Off

Many webmasters have been reporting a Google Page Rank drop in recent weeks which has had mixed results on the search positions of many millions of web sites.

Whilst many industry insiders were bemoaning drops in search result positions, many websites seemed to come through Google’s latest changes relatively unscathed, save for a drop in the Google Page Rank. Whilst Google maintains that Page Rank and Search Results are not directly linked, they do have a relationship with one another amongst many other contributing factors determining the value of any given web site.

Google Page Rank is an ‘importance ranking’ on a scale of 1 through 10 of how valuable Google deems your website to be in respect of the whole Google Index. Search Position on the other hand, is where your website is positioned in the search results for a given keyword search.

For example, a Google search for ‘news’ yields 15.4 billion results, and BBC news has a search position of 2, in that it is the second site listed in the results for that search. The BBC news website has a Google Page Rank of 8/10 which means that its value to the whole of the web, (in terms of content, back links etc etc) in the eyes of Google, is considered to be very high. In fact, very few sites other than Google.com and Facebook.com have a PR of 10/10.

Although Twitter can boast meteoric fame, it has yet to hit the highest ranking with its 9/10 PR. One of the World’s leading Media agencies, Sky boats only a 7/10 PR and other global names such as Ebay have 8/10 PR and Amazon at 9/10 PR. By comparison, most large scale SME websites with 100 plus pages and 200 plus links will fall into the rankings somewhere between PR4-6. Small Business Web Designs / sites (which account for the majority of the web) will likely average a PR1-2. These sites are typically 5-10 pages and have only several inbound links from other sites.

The recent changes to Google Page Rank (PR) are nothing new. Over the years, Google’s methods of calculating a website’s importance and the benchmarks it uses have changed considerably, and no doubt over time, more changes will occur.

The reason that most of Google’s algorithm changes adversely affect most websites in terms of PR is largely down to the fact that the web itself is constantly changing. Whereas five or six years ago, when websites like Facebook were just starting out, it was unheard of for sites to have a million daily visitors, now Facebook and Twitter see tens and even hundreds of millions of visitors posting new entries/updates each day.

As the web has grown and developed new ways of delivering content, become quicker and more widely used, Google has simply raised the bar as to what is now considered ‘important’. The one lesson to be learned here is that if your business relies on web traffic generated from search engines like Google, you have to constantly improve your offering to the web. That means more of two things, more content, and more links. With blogging sites becoming more and more popular, there are many DIY SEO techniques that you can emlpoy to help, but if the search terms / keywords you desire are competitive then help from a professional SEO consultant is a must.

In respeonse to some webmasters concernrs that the recent Google changes were part of a wider anti-spam measure, John Mueller the Webmaster Trends Analyst at Google from Google made the following comment’s,  “It looks like the [ranking drop] you’re seeing here may be from an algorithmic change.”

He went on to say, “As part of our recent algorithmic changes (which the outside world sometimes refers to as the ‘May Day update’ because it happened primarily in May), our algorithms are assessing the site differently. This is a ranking change, not any sort of manual spam penalty.”

Raise Page Rank With Search Engine Optimization (Seo)

Utilizing effective search engine optimization techniques will improve the page rank of your website. Search engine optimization (SEO) is the process by which webmasters or online business owners utilize strategic copy to increase their website’s popularity. Given that the internet has grown so rapidly over the past decade, the competition for the best search engine position has created an enormous market focused on how best to position a website for better rankings on Google, Yahoo and other prominent search engines. Therefore, understanding the fundamental elements of SEO is critical to online business’ success. Search engines are sophisticated pieces of technology that allow users to quickly find relevant websites by searching for a simple word or phrase (e.g. “day spas”). While there are many tricks that can be used to increase page rank, the most effective methods must include providing consistently high quality online articles. This seems like a simple concept, but there are many websites that fail to provide content that visitors find interesting. If you can set your website apart from these boring, lifeless sites, then you’re already a step closer to achieving high page rank via search engine optimization. Sites that provide articles that are informative, well-written, and regularly updated create highly engaged online visitors who are more likely to return to the site I the future. The second critical component of effective search engine optimization is to include key words and phrases within your articles. These keyword phrases should mirror the phrases that website visitors use when traversing the web. Visit your site’s traffic report to determine what keywords are drawing visitors to your site already, and make an effort to incorporate those words into your articles. Alternatively, study your competitors’ websites to determine what words they use to attract traffic. Be sure to use simple titles that clearly state what the article is about, and try to include a keyword or two in the title if possible. The more key words you use in your articles, the more likely it is that visitors will find your site when they conduct a search with those words. If you are consistent with these methods, your overall search engine optimization will increase, which will in turn boost your page rank. Next, when writing articles to post on your site, make sure you develop a clear means of organizing their content. This can often be done by simply adding a new page to your site. This will allow room for more articles to be added as you write them, and allow you to develop an archive of articles that will continue to draw unique visitors. Be sure to include your archived articles in a directory that is near the root web of your site, to ensure that search engines effectively index your online articles. Don’t forget to add the pages to your site navigation, and include links to and from the main page and the articles page. Creating an articles page that is easy to find not only makes your content more readily accessible, but also allows spiders searching the web to tag a larger percentage of your sites’ information. Finally, consider allowing others to link to your website. Not only does this provide free advertising for your site, but it creates the impression that your site is important because of its affiliated links. Just be sure that you avoid linking to pages that have a lower page rank than your own; it actually could reduce your site’s popularity within the rankings. Search engine optimization strategies are important in developing your site’s popularity. Therefore, write high quality, keyword rich content and link your site to and from a strategic family of other sites. In so doing, you will help improve your site’s popularity and, hopefully, drive increased business through your online business. More articles and techniques here: mediaverso.com

In order to be ranked high using proper search engine optimization methods, the inbound links pointing to your site should be coming from PR5 – PR6 site which are noted as being authoritative.

These backlinks coming from other websites to yours, are critical for the purpose of not only raising your page rank, but also providing you with greater visibility on search results, thus generating traffic to your site. The search engine spiders make noted of the link and follow them back to their source to determine its ranking and trust level.

    How to increase your pagerank?

How to provide webmasters with a cost effective Article Marketing Solution. Writing and publishing articles, much like blogging, is a very profitable way to promote a website and generate sales. The problem is that webmasters are tired of spending huge amounts of time submitting there article to thousands of article banks. Here is a solution that will allow webmasters to utilize a unique, one of a kind system to effortlessly submit their articles with a single click, and spread them across thousands of targeted article sites that will drive web visitors to their site and services.

Before now, you would submit an article to a article bank and it would just get lost in the masses and contribute little to your sites link popularity or traffic. Now there is a system that users can signup to and specifically target the niche sites they want their press release or article to appear on and submit the article with an absolute 100% success rate. The automated system and technology then ‘rewrites’ the article to be unique and adds your article to new article banks (websites that host the articles) on a daily basis until it has posted across the entire network. This seems to the search engines as a ‘natural growth’ and will give you A++ search engine link popularity benefits and really help secure keyword targeted phrases on the engines.

This this process is 100% automated. So it might be confusing to you but there isn’t any hands on work in this area of the site.

For less than $2 per post a webmaster can spread their article across thousands of article bank sites which will boost their traffic, search engine exposure, and Pagerank.
